Jennifer
Head of Operations
How did you get started in your field?
In high school, Jennifer loved photography; she still does. However, she was not sure if she wanted to pursue photography as a career. So she found out about this thing called graphic design during UF Preview and decided to give that a go. She instantly fell in love with typography, color theory, branding, and everything else that goes along with design. She graduated UF with a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a graphic design major in 2015 and began her job search. She found Rock Paper Simple in 2018 and, thank goodness, Joshua hired her as the Lead Designer at that time!
Time at RPS – Best/Favorite Award or Work
So when she was hired at Rock Paper Simple, she got to work on lots of different clients’ work: websites, collateral, branding, etc. Her favorite work that she has done was for New Life Mission. She got to help rebrand them with a new logo, new website, new videos, and she has enjoyed seeing them use her branding throughout their organization. They even printed leggings with a texture that she made for their website! Since Lead Designer, she moved to Creative Director, and is now the Head of Operations, where her favorite part of the job is helping the team have what they need to do their great work. Every day, she gets to empower her team to solve problems, make creative ideas come to life, and make sure they know that she always has their backs.
Personal Life
If you need a Taylor Swift quote, an amigurumi crochet, or the identification of a color, she is your person. When she is not at work or thinking about work, she is usually with or thinking about her husband and three dogs: Roxie, Amber, and Scout. They are her fur-babies and, if you ask about them, she will tell you all of the stories and show you all of the millions of photos that she has of them. On the weekends, you can find her crocheting, cuddling with the pups, practicing piano, or building Lego sets. She loves all things Star Wars, Super Mario, Lego, and Disney.
I was born in California, but I have lived on the Space Coast my entire life, specifically Merritt Island. I went to Merritt Island High School and I attended the University of Florida for college, and graduated with a Bachelors in Fine Arts, major for Graphic Design. I have always been obsessed with fonts, which stemmed from making typography for my childhood room. This has always been a fun thing for me to mess around on the computer and layout posters, shirt designs, or anything else I could design. As I learned more about graphic design, I knew I wanted to be a Creative or Art Director. I used to tell people “I want the job Justin Timberlake has in the movie ‘Friends with Benefits’” so that they would understand.
A few years after I moved back to Merritt Island, I got a job as the Lead Designer at Rock Paper Simple. Over the last 4 years I’ve worked my way up to Head of Operations where oversee the whole creative team! I love my job very much as I get to help others do their jobs and grow in their creativity.
I’m married to my high school sweetheart and we have three beautiful fur-babies. We got married in January 2019, but have been together for 12 years. He is definitely my best friend and I would not want to spend the majority of my time with anyone else.
This is your warning, ask at your own risk: If you ask about my dogs, I will show you every photo I have ever taken over the last ten years and tell you every story I find hilarious or loving about my fur-babies. Roxie is the oldest at 10, Amber is 9, and Scout is the newest member of our pack at a mere 1.5 years old. They are all rescues and mutts and my guess of their DNA is probably as good as yours.
I am obsessed with Disney. I don’t mean going to the Disney parks, although they are fun; I mean the movies, design, merchandise, songs, and hotels. I may not know everything about every movie, but I certainly know a lot and will watch any Disney movie at any time, with or without anyone else.
Other things I’m obsessed with: Taylor Swift, Crochet (new hobby), Lego, Star Wars, and coloring my hair.
I’m excited to get to know everyone and be a part of the AAF Space Coast Chapter!
